Two-Day Workshop on the Assessment of Fixed Offshore Structures

The Minerals Management Service (MMS) has scheduled a two-day workshop on the assessment of fixed offshore structures.  The MMS Gulf of Mexico OCS Region (GOMR) will host the workshop at the Hilton New Orleans Airport (901 Airline Drive, Kenner, Louisiana 70062; telephone:  1-504-469-5000; telefax:   1-504-466-5473) on Tuesday, September 23, 2003, and Wednesday, September 24, 2003.  To cover the costs for the facilities, registration will be $100 per attendee for this two-day event.

    Purpose

The workshop will clarify MMS expectations with regard to the assessment of existing OCS platforms and the timeline for industry compliance with applicable MMS requirements.  The workshop will also provide a forum for industry discussion and feedback to improve the understanding of the assessment process.

    Objectives

    · To explain the need for the assessment process from MMS and industry perspectives.

    · To understand the risks to life safety, the environment, and business loss, including loss of recoverable reserves.

    · To communicate MMS expectations and timeline for industry compliance with the assessment process.

    · To improve the understanding of the assessment process through discussion and examples illustrating key aspects of the process.

    · To define the current state of the practice for assessment engineering.

    · To receive feedback through panel discussion and address questions from workshop participants.
